Located in Cardiff, G24 Innovations is a solar cell manufacturing facility set in a 23 acre site.
Scope:
G24 Innovations wished to investigate the possibility of installing a wind turbine on site to reduce demand for imported electricity and to reduce energy costs and site carbon emissions inline with organisational environmental and sustainability targets.
Services:
- Identification of on-site wind resource via analysis of wind speed data at varying turbine heights
- Feasibility study to assess a range of wind turbine options for the G24 site, with consideration of on-site wind resource, site electrical demand and tariffs, turbine size and specifications, supply and installation costs, project payback and client investment criteria
- Advising on planning and electrical connection processes and issues
Solution:
The installed wind turbine solution is a 120m high 2.3MW turbine, located on the G24 site. The wind turbine has cut carbon emissions from the site by circa 2,550 tonnes per year and allowed the site to make significant savings to electricity costs. As an organisation manufacturing and championing the use of renewable energy products, the installation of the wind turbine has further enhanced the organisation’s sustainable profile and reduced the carbon footprint of every unit produced.
